Abstract

485,465. Glazing vehicle windows. MAIER, F. E. Nov. 16, 1936, No. 31377. Convention date, Nov. 15, 1935. [Class 20 (iii)] The windows of a vehicle are arranged so that the outer surfaces of the glass panos are flush with the outer surfaces of the vehicle wall and door frame at the front and rear edges of the windows, and are set back relatively to the wall and door surfaces below, and also preferably above, the level of the windows. In the sliding window shown in Fig. 5, the vertical edges of the window panel a are flush with the wall surface e, and the panel is guided between bent-over portions y of the inner and outer wall sheets l, f. The upper edge of the panel is received in a bead m formed by bending the edge portion of the roof h. Fig. 7 shows a fixed window in which the upper and lower edges of the pane a are bevelled, the pane being retained in position by means of strips r detachably secured to the inside of the vehicle wall. According to a modification the upper and lower edges of a fixed glass panel may be received in U -shaped channel members which are secured between the vehicle wall and strips secured thereto. Fig. 11 shows one form of glass-retaining and guiding means for a sliding window, in which members v, which engage in grooves y in the frame, are secured to the glass panel a by streamlined holders w. According to a modification, the members v may be replaced by flat strips of glass cemented along the edges of the sliding panel. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91, describes also a number of constructions in which the outer surface of the glass panel is flush with the surrounding wall around its entire periphery. In one such construction, the glass panel, whose periphery is bevelled, is retained in position by strips secured to the inner surface of the vehicle wall, as in the construction shown in Fig. 7, while in a modification, the glass panel is retained in position by streamlined holders secured to the outer surface of the surrounding frame. In a further construction, the vehicle wall or glass-retaining strips at the upper and lower horizontal edges of the window are formed with longitudinal protuberant portions within which the channelled window liners are received. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
