Window sashes 2 comprise metal or plastics stiles 1, 21 and wooden rails 2, having ends shaped to the stile sections. Ribs 9 of the stile sections 1 engage slots 13 in the vertical frame members 8, and ribs 18, 19 of the stile sections 21 engage grooves 17 on stile sections 16 of complementary opening sashes. A weather moulding 22 (Fig. 4) may be attached to the bottom rail 2, and the pane 29 (Fig. 6) is retained by a spring 28.
