Abstract

1364484 Windows; glazing V E ANDERSON MFG CO 22 June 1971 [22 June 1970] 29183/71 Headings E1J and E1R A window has a sash which is slidable in the plane of the window and has pivots 94 at one edge, the opposite edge having a member 185 which is operable to prevent pivoting and guide sliding, flexible seals 280 being provided at the sides of the sash. Window 10 has a main frame 12 with jambs 20, head 14 and sill 18. Additional jamb members 20 extend from head 14 to cross-, rail 22 and support a fixed glazing panel 50. Pivot part 94 is screwed in recess 106 of the sash jamb 88 and has a cylindrical projection which engages in portion 96 (Fig. 18) slidable in recess 110 in the main frame jamb. Part 96 is attached to a tape of a sash balance mechanism (89, Figs. 14-17, not shown) located in the main frame. Part 96 may be omitted and part 94 replaced by the alterntives of Figs. 21-24 (not shown). The guide member comprises a member 185 secured to the sash and a bolt 185 insertable into the member to enter pocket 110 of the fixed jamb. Alternative guide members are described (Figs. 28-39, not shown). An arm 241 limiting pivoting is provided. Spring pressed members (246, Fig. 47 not shown) extend between sash and frame jamb to prevent unintentional opening, e.g. by wind pressure. Spring pressed locking members are positioned in the sash sill (Figs. 69-72, not shown). Panes are retained in the main frame by glazing strips (56, Fig. 8 and Fig. 9-13 not shown) and additional panes may be retained by further clips (Figs. 85-94). False muntins (352, Fig. 76 not shown) extend across the panes and are attached to the frame by clips (Figs. 78-83) and to crossing muntins by clips (356, Fig. 72). The window frame carries the edge seals (Figs. 49-52, not shown) and may support the frame (273) of a screen. Corner inserts (250, Figs. 54-57, and Figs. 58-66, not shown) in the main frame assist sealing. Windows 10 arranged side by side are attached as in Figs. 4-7 (not shown) and the wall aperture is trimmed by members (522, 524, 532 Fig. 95) or other members (Figs. 99-111).
