Abstract

1,229,420. Windows. P. H. PLASTICS Inc. 31 Oct., 1968 [31 Oct., 1967], No. 49473/67. Heading E1J. A window system for buildings, and for incorporation in curtain walling comprises a wooden frame consisting of header 21, two jambs 22 and a sill 20, these frame members being clad in extruded plastics coverings 46, 51, 42 respectively each shaped to conform to their respective exterior surfaces of the frame members and to be retained thereon by a flange such as 49, 45 on the covering extending into a recess 48, 45 formed in the relevant member on a face not exposed to the weather; extruded plastics tracks 23 mounted in head member 21, plastics sill track member 39 over the extrusion cover 42 and jamb tracks as in Specification 1,172,251; movable glass panes 26, 27, 31, 32, retained in the window by the tracks and sealstrips 50 on the coverings to form a weatherproof joint with the header and jamb tracks and the plastics sill 39 to prevent exposure of the wooden frame to the weather when the window system is mounted in a building. The window may be a double double hung window as shown in Fig. 2 and claimed in divided Specification 1,152,788 or a double horizontally sliding pane type window (see Fig. 3), the header system being as in Specification 1,172,251 and provided with an insect screen having a frame retained in the track channels of the sill and header. Seal strips are provided between the tracks and panes.
