Abstract

877,294. Window frames. FINDLAY, G. K. June 23, 1959 [June 23, 1958; Jan. 2, 1959; Feb. 26, 1959], Nos. 20077/58, 225/59 and 6743/59. Class 20(3) The fabricated components of a window frame are covered by respective cover members 6, Fig. 2, of sheet plastic, e.g. P.V.C. formed for selfattachment to the components, e.g. by preforming by extrusion or by bending or curving to the shape of the component. The covers may be sprung on the components when cold or applied after heating and allowed to shrink into place on cooling. The cover members 6 may be provided with projections 8 which engage in horizontal or vertical grooves 10 in a component and are of less width than the grooves to allow for relative expansion and contraction between the cover member and the component. Furthermore the cover member 6 may be spaced from a surface of its component and a resilient pad 13 may be interposed between, e.g. the front surface of the component and the member 6. The member 6 may have reinforcements 14 at its corners and in the case of a window sash 5 the member 6 is extended into a recess 15 in the inner edge of the sash where it seats against the window pane 16 or a socket therefor to provide a waterproof seal. The member 6 may also provide a seating on the inner edge of the sash for an insert 18, Fig. 3 of e.g. sponge rubber compressed by closure of the window to form a weatherproof or draughtproof seal.
