Abstract

640,966. Making window-frames. BECKETT, LAYCOCK, & WATKINSON, Ltd. Feb. 3, 1948, No. 3191. [Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv)] [Also in Group X] Angular bending.- In glazing frames, e.g. for vehicles, comprising a channel- or anglesection metal strip secured around the edge of the aperture to be glazed and wherein the glass is secured by a rubber or similar removable packing strip, the strip is so formed that it may be bent or curved to the shape of the aperture. In a channelsection strip, Figs. 1-3 and 6, wherein one side wall 21 of the channel is higher than the other 22, the higher side is slotted from its free edge 25 towards the base 23, e.g. with downwardlyconverging slots 24 terminating in round holes 26. Fig. 3 shows how the strip can then be curved without distortion of the side wall 21. The height of the side wall 22 is insufficient to require slotting to prevent distortion. Fig. 6 shows how the channel-section strip is secured around the edge of the aperture in the panelling 20 to be glazed. A deep inverted channel C for securing the strip to the panelling may be formed as shown at 27 ... 30 in Fig. 2, and the part 29 thereof may be perforated at 31 to facilitate bending. In other cases, e.g. when the frame is secured direct to the wooden framework, as in Fig. 10, the deep inverted channel is omitted. Angle-section strips are similarly slotted along the vertical limb of the angle, e.g. as shown at 64, Fig. 16. The vertical limb of the angle-section strip and the higher vertical side of the channel-section strip can be provided with a plastic covering 32 which serves as a cushioned seating for one face of the pane 33, the other face and edge of the pane being engaged by the rubber packing strip 34. In Fig. 11, the packing strip itself is formed with an extension 47, 48 embracing the slotted side wall.
