Abstract

803,392. Double glazing. HOPE & SONS, Ltd., H. July 26, 1956 [Aug. 10, 1955, Oct. 14, 1955], Nos. 23019/55 and 29289/55. Class 20(3) Means for double glazing a window, or door, frame made of standard section 8 adapted normally to accommodate a single glazing pane, comprises a sub-frame 4 which is made e.g. of extruded aluminium alloy, or synthetic plastic, and is of rectangular section to accommodate a double pane 5 sealed therein e.g. by putty 6, a flange 7 extending along one edge of the base of the sub-frame being secured to the section 8 by clips, not shown, or by screws 10. A flange 9 may be provided on the base of the sub-frame. Instead of the flange 7 one edge of the base of the subframe may be formed with a secondary channel which is directed oppositely to the glazing receiving channel and offset therefrom, the fixing screws in this case passing between the side limbs of the offset channel. In a modification, Fig. 4, an enlargement 7 formed along the base, as shown, or along one side of the sub-frame has a rectangular longitudinal groove 11, the walls of which may be provided with continuous ribs to co-operate with the threads of the fixing screws. Alternatively the walls of the groove may be plain and the screws may cut their own threads therein, on the entrance to the groove may have'inturned lips for engagement by the threads of the screws.
