Abstract

750,023. Glazing strips. WINDSHIELDS OF WORCESTER Ltd. May 28 1954 [Oct. 14 1953], No. 28254/53. Classes 20(3) and 20(4). Panel mounting means comprises a main strip 11, Fig. 2, of rubber or other resilient material and a filler strip 13 interlocked therewith; the two strips forming between them a channel 6 for the panel 1, the filler strip having at one side an extension piece 13b which lies over a face of the main strip. The strip 11 is keyed into a metal frame 10 by ribs 12 and is stepped to form a ledge for the edge of the glass panel 1 and provided with a part-circular recess to receive the part-circular portion 13a of the filler strip 13. A lip 14 on the strip 11 engages the outer edge of the extension piece 13b. The filler strip 13 may be made of rubber as shown or may be of metal with or without a rubber covering keyed or bonded to the face adjacent the glass. In a modification the main strip is fitted in a channel around a metal or other window frame carrying one or more panels, for securing the window assembly within an aperture in a body panel. Alternatively the main and filler strips of Fig. 2 may engage a flange of a metal or other frame carrying one or more panels. In a further form, Fig. 1, for assembling a window panel 1 to a vehicle body panel 2, the main strip 3 receives two metal filler strips 4, each of which co-operates with the main strip to provide a pair of oppositely directed channels 6, 7. The strips 4 have integral extensions 4b the outer edges of which are concealed by lips 5 on the main strip, and on the surfaces adjacent the panels 1, 2 inserts 9 of rubber are keyed therein. Alternatively a covering of rubber may be bonded to the filler strips. The outer surfaces of the metal filler strips may be chromium plated or enamelled or may be of aluminium. In the embodiment shewn in Fig. 1, the filler strips may be of rubber. In either construction the filler strip may have a dovetail sectioned part to key it to the main strip.
