709,039. Vehicle windows; panelling. AUSTER, Ltd., and SMALL, W. W. Jan. 22, 1953 [March 17, 1952], No. 6787/52. Classes 20 (3) and 20 (4) Means for securing panels within window apertures particularly window apertures of vehicles, or for securing together the adjacent edges of two panels disposed in the same plane, the assembly means enabling the panel, or panels, to be easily removed and replaced, comprises two opposed rectangular frames 3, 4, each presenting two clamping surfaces 11, 12, which when used for securing a pane 1 to a window surround 2 are covered, or co-operate, with resilient strips 14, 21, 17, Fig. 1, so that on being drawn together by screws 27 the pane 1 is clamped between the inner pair of opposed faces 11, 11, and the surround 2 is clamped between the outer pair of opposed faces 12, 12. On fitting the pane 1 to the surround 2 the strips 14, 21, are first keyed into grooves 13 in the frame 3, which is mounted on to the support 2, the latter being received in a slot 24 is the strip 21. The frame 4, having the strip 17 keyed into one groove 13, is then applied so that a projection 7 enters an opposed channel 8 in the frame 3 and a bead 26 on the strip 21 enters the other groove 13 in the frame 4. The frames 3, 4, are connected together by the screws 27 which pass through the frames at spaced intervals, cover strips being sprung into undercut grooves 30 in the exterior faces of the frames. In an alternative arrangement, Fig. 6, two adjacent glass panes 1', 1', are joined together by frames 5', 6', which are similar to the frames 3, 4, strips 14', 17<SP>1</SP> being used which are similar to the strips 14, 17.
