Abstract

A laterally sliding e.g. wooden double glazed sash of a window has on its lower horizontal edge a runner or guide channel 6 of appropriate plastic material which does not require lubrication, e.g. a channel 6 having its side walls 5 lined with plastic flock and cooperates with a rail 4 of the same or similar plastic material on the sill 1 or other stationary wooden frame 7 the window and the upper edge of the sash rides in an inverted channel 7 of plastic material, the side walls of which are lined with plastic flock 9, Fig. 3, to seal against draught and ingress of water, there being a space above the edge of the sash to facilitate removal of the sash from the frame 1. Draught excluders are provided on the vertical edges of the frame 1 which contact the vertical edges of the sash in the closed position and between vertical meeting rails of adjacent sashes. The sash is formed by the glazed unit 13, 14 of plastic, metal &c. removably secured to the movable sash 3 by finger pieces on three sides, with the fourth side (vertical) located in a recess in the sash. In the stationary sash, the removable unit is held on each side by finger pieces. Artificial lattice members may be accommodated between the double glazing panes 11 and 13 and a removable fly-screen 30 may be provided.
