1,243,807. Sliding doors and windows. E. PUDENZ. 2 Oct., 1968 [16 Oct., 1967; 23 Dec., 1967], No. 46790/68. Heading E1J. In a sliding window &c structural unit, the wings 2 which slide on plastics guide rails 20, or guide rails 5 within the head and sill 10, 11, are made from profiled frame members of H- section 35 and are slidably mounted in their outwardly looking sections, and draught sealing strip carriers 39 which mount longitudinal sealing strips 43, 44, 68, 69 along their outer edges, are movable vertically under pressure of springs 45, 46 in the frame members 35 under the control of adjustment rollers 48, 49 which also run on the guide rails 5 and in the closed position of the wing, the rollers dip into suitably disposed recesses in the rails 5, operative only to the adjustment rollers, whereupon the strip carriers are automatically pressed down and bring the sealing strips 43, 44 into contact with the guide rail 5, or are pressed up to bring the sealing strips into contact with the upper guide 20. The guide 20 is resilient and is adjustable by spaced spacer bolts 21 in the head 11 of the frame. The rail 5 is mounted over a pair of ribs 16, 17 and drain holes are provided in the ribs on the sloping surface 10 of the sill. The jambs of the frame and the head and sill members are cut at right angles and the flanges of the U-section jambs engage the ends of the head and sill and are adapted to mount jointer crack sealing strips 84, Fig. 6 for weather sealing between the frame and the surrounding wall, the Fig. 7 being a transverse section of a jamb. A draught sealing strip may also be secured in groove 110.
