Abstract
877,261. Sliding doors. STEEL, J. F. Aug. 20, 1958 [Aug. 27, 1957], No. 26762/58. Class 20(3) A door comprises an outer screen panel constituted by top rail 173, Fig. 2, bottom rail 174 and left and Tight rails 175, 176, Fig. 3, an inner glass panel constituted by rails 166, 167, Fig. 2, and stiles 168, 169, Fig. 3, and an outer glass panel constituted by rails 58, 59, Fig. 2, and stiles 60, 61, Fig. 3, intermediate the screen and inner glass panels, each panel being roll able, with the upper ends thereof sliding in respective header channels 19, 21, 20, Fig. 2, on sheave rails 38, 40, 39 mounted on a threshold outwardly sloping sill plate 34 provided with means such as holes 51, 52 for draining the upper surface thereof, which 'holes drain into transverse channels open to atmosphere and supported underneath the sill plate. The sheave rails 38, 39, 40 may be integral with the sill plate 34 or may be of rigid vinyl detachably mounted on the sill plate (Fig. 12, not shown). The screen is supported at each end on a sheave 20, Fig. 2, mounted in a bracket 205 slidably adjustable in a vertical direction in the lower rail 174 by means of a screw 209 movable in a vertical slot 210. The glass panels are each supported at each end on a pair of inwardly sloping spaced apart faces 135, Fig. 4, (or 135a, Fig. 2), secured to the frame 61 and the sheave 138 is carriedbetween two vertical plates 136, (or 136a) slidably adjustable on the faces 135 by an adjusting screw 141, Fig. 4, coupled at its end to the plates 136 and threadably mounted in the bight of a carrier bracket 146 secured to the frame 61. Weather strips comprising a continuous strip of woven pile material 94, Fig. 3, and a continuous lip 95 of resilient, e.g. vinyl material projecting from a head 93 of similar material accommodated in a T-shaped slot 91, 92, in the mounting item, i.e. frame stile 61 in this case, are located throughout the door construction at joints between the panels and frame with the lip 95 on the weather side. Vertical weather strips 165, 165a, 212, Fig. 2, accommodated in vertical slots in the lower rails of the panel frames contact with the sill surface 34 and the strips 160, 160a of the glass panel frames are spring pressed against the sill surface, being mounted on plates 155 slidable in slots 154 in the lower rails. The stiles and rails of the glass panel frames are each provided with a rounded inner end wall such as 64, Fig. 2 integral with the inner and outer walls 63, 62 thereof and have a central longtitudinal slot 66 to receive slidably the pane of glass 67, a continuous glazing strip 68 being press fitted between the edges of the slots and the pane. The panes single or double glazed are supported on resilient blocks 123, Fig. 4 in the lower rails. The rails and stiles of the screen panel have inner and outer walls, Fig. 3, 177a, 178a, 177, 178, Fig. 2, each of which is provided with an integral inner wall having a peripheral groove 181, 202, Fig. 2, 181a, 181b, Fig. 3, for the reception of an edge of the screen 183 held in the grooves by a glazing strip 184. Weather seals are provided at the joints between overlapping parts of the panels as indicated at 190, Fig. 3 and as interlocking joints at 110 in Fig. 3 or in Figs. 10, 11 (not shown). Resilient bumpers 33, Fig. 3, are mounted in the side jambs of each channel and may consist of a plurality of spaced apart solid members or of a continuous strip of tubular construction fitted in T-shaped grooves in the jambs. Resilient bumpers 185, Fig. 2, are provided on the upper rail of the screen for slidable engagement with the side wall of the header.
