Abstract

1,125,397. Bottom sash rails with drainage channel, window frames. D. WALRAVEN. 9 Dec., 1965. No. 52311/65. Headings E1J and E1R. A bottom rail for supporting a pane 9 comprises a pane receiving portion 2 and a lowest portion 1 integral therewith and joined thereto and in which is formed a drainage channel 4 for condensate from the inner side and having discharge openings 5 in the bottom, that communicate with the outer side of the rail. The outer surface 3 and the web of the glazing channel 2 slants downwards from the inner towards the outer leg of the channel 4 and merges smoothly into both the inner leg 2 and the vertical surface of the drainage channel. The extended flange 1 may be provided with a ridge 8 projecting beyond the bottom of the drainage channel and the mouth "a" of the channel may be further reduced by a rib 7 or preferably 17. The rail may be secured to a frame member 10 by flange 12 and flange 11 with or without the normal bent marginal vertical portion 11. The portion 11, 12, 13 may be a unit apart secured to the frame member 10, in the case of a movable, pivoting or sliding sash, the portion 13 on the member 10 abutting in the closed position of the sash a similar portion 13 on the bottom rail (Fig. 3, not shown).
