Abstract
339,440. Soc. Anon. A. Saurer. Jan. 29, 1929, [Convention date]. Hoods.-In hoods of the kind in which the cover is carried by hoopsticks arranged to run on runways by means of traction members such as chains and in which the cover is secured at the front to a curved member or peak the latter is provided with a control member of substantial length formed in telescopic parts by which it is automatically turned down and moved longitudinally into position to stretch the cover, a locking member which comes into action automatically when the slides move being associated with the control member and locking it in the opened and stretched out position. The hoopsticks 4 - - 7 are provided with slides 15, 15<1>, 16" having rollers 16 arranged to run in the guide rails 3 and the hoopsticks 4 - - 6 are connected together and to auxiliary hoops 8 by hinged struts 9. Endless chains 20 are provided in guides and are provided with tappets 26, 51, Figs. 8 and 11, the tappet 26 being connected to the slide 15<1> of the hoop 5 by a link 27 to draw it forward when the chain is operated to extend the hood. The cover 10 at the front is connected to a bent member 11 carried by sleeves 81, Fig. 6, surrounding tubes 77 mounted on rods 71 with a spring 82 intervening. The rods 71 are pivoted to the slides 15<1> and are rocked downwards carrying the bent member 11 with them during the latter part of the movement by a rocking arm 79 having a roller 96 engaging in a runway 100. The rods 71 also carry a curved member 85 which is thrust forward by the springs 82 causing rollers 88 to engage under horns 90 secured to a fixed part 92 of the vehicle and rollers 89 to press the bent member 11 firmly against the fixed member 92. The hoops 6, 7 are carried forward by the tappet 51, Fig. 8, engaging a member having two pawls 42, 43 which release the tappet 51 when the hoop 6 arrives at its proper position by means of a wedge 47 forcing the pawls upward the upper one 43 entering a slot 49. The hoop 7 is pulled forwards by the links 36 a stop 61 for the hoop 7 being provided which is engaged by a nose 60. Each slide 15, 15<1> as it comes into proper position is locked automatically by means of rollers 63, Fig. 10, in the slides engaging strips 64 fixed to the guiding rails 3. The side edges of the cover 10 have arranged thereon pockets 37, 38, Figs. 8 and 9, into which project holders 12, 13 carried by the struts 9 or hoops forcing the marginal edges 40 into grooves 41<a> and stretching the cover 10 transversely.
