Vehicle fittings and attachments; platforms.- In a vehicle provided with a sliding floor which can be withdrawn on to a loading platform p, part of the floor turns upwards when the floor is moved into its normal position to form part of the containing walls of the body. The floor is composed of separate boards d, and runs on rollers c mounted in runways b in the vehicle frame. The front board d is rounded at the edge e and is provided with trunnions f running in guides g so that this board is raised to form the front end of the body when the floor is moved into place. The floor is moved by ropes t, v wound by drums on hand-actuated shafts k, j, the ropes v terminating in hooks w which engage with the rear edge of the rearmost board d<11>. A third hand-actuated shaft i carries a drum by which the platform p is raised or lowered, the drum being retained by a ratchet and pawl device and provided with a hand-brake for lowering. To prevent binding of the load and the sides of the lorry, the sides h, shown in plan in Fig. 3, are free to move longitudinally and are connected by links 3 to vertical stanchions 6 so that any rearward movement of the sides is accompanied by outward movement which releases the load. The vehicle may be provided with a hinged tailboard fitted with antifriction rollers and forming a bridge between the vehicle and the platform or forming a ramp. The platform p is fitted with rollers q forming runways for the floor d, and may be fixed in any desired position or raised into an upright position at the back of the vehicle for transport.
