Abstract

516,562. Vehicle fittings for loading. CRISTOFOLETTI, U., LABOCCETTA, L., and PERSI, E. March 23, 1938, Nos. 8881 and 8882. Convention dates, March 24, 1937, and May 28, 1937. [Class 78 (iv)] Load-containers are hauled up ramps on to trucks by a winch, by fitting the lower end of the ramp with rollers which pass under the container and gradually tilt it as the ramp is forced thereunder until the whole container is supported on the ramp. For containers without feet, the lower end of the ramp is provided additionally with wedge-shaped surfaces or the latter may be fitted to the container itself. In some cases the ramps are formed as wheeled carriages. Fig. 1 shows one construction with a chassis 1 fitted with a roller frame 3 adjustable in inclination at point 5. The ramp 6, connected at one end to the frame 3,. carries a roller track 4, rollers 13 which are pushed under the edge of a container 10 with feet, and winch ropes attached to the container at 12. By hauling on the ropes the container is tilted and gradually drawn up the ramp. In some cases containers without feet have wedge-shaped projections at their front ends under which the ramp may get a purchase. Fig. 4 shows the ramp 6 fitted with a sliding-carriage 27 roller-guided at top, bottom and sides of the ramp. The carriage carries a pair of beaks 28 for forcing under a non-footed container until the edge 33 passes completely thereunder and forms a stop for it as it is hauled on to the ramp. The carriage may be removed before the container is hauled up the ramp 6. The roller tracks on the ramp may be covered by an endless belt to form the container support. For loading and transporting in the same apparatus these ramps may he mounted on wheels to form trailer or independent trucks. In one of these constructions side bars 14, Fig. 8, are raised 'by jacks to engage the feet of the container and lift it clear of the rollers 2 and belt 10 during transport in the horizontal position on the truck. The road wheels of these trucks may be adjustable longitudinally on the chassis. The trucks may also be provided with beaks on a sliding carriage similar to those of Fig. 4.
