440,099. Hatches. THOMAS, R. E., 114, Brondesbury Park, Willesden Green, London. March 14, 1934, No. 7993. [Class 113 (i)] In a hatch in which the top coamings k are set back to provide a free hatch opening the beams which are of greater length than the hatch opening so that they overlap the ledge h<1> carry rollers c which run on the ledge and are guided by, but do not engage with the rail l. The beams are prevented from jumping the track by the upper guide rail m and each beam is secured in its proper position across the hatch opening by pivoted latches g which when turned down engage in slots in the guide rail m.
