Abstract

417,120. Ships' hatches. REITH, R. B., Exchange Buildings, Quayside, Newcastleon-Tyne. Feb. 28, 1933, No. 6082. [Class 113 (i).] Hatch beams A are shifted from their operative positions to one end of a hatch by inserting wheeled carriages H underneath their ends after they have been lifted for example by the lever E engaging with the hatch covering and with a ring G secured to the end of the beam. The beams are positioned in the hatch between studs C attached to the coaming and intercostal ledge R on the internal ledge on which the hatch beams rest and the rollers run. The required lift of the beam is lessened by cutting away the hatch beam below the part engaging with the studs C.
