Abstract

421,865. Ships' hatches. MARINE PROPULSION, Ltd., AYRE, A. L., and AYRE, W., The Shipyard, Burntisland, Fife. Jan. 22, 1934, No. 2122. [Class 113 (i)] In ships' hatches a part of the coaming is formed as or is provided with a longitudinally extended inclined ledge or seat on which the similarly inclined end of the hatch beam rests. In Fig. 1. the inclined ledge 6a is provided at the upper end of the coaming 6 and is engaged by the turned-up bottom flange 9<a> of the hatch beam 9. Positioning studs 10 for the beam are provided on the incline. In modifications, the incline is formed on setback extensions of the coaming and or the incline is welded to a vertical set-back part of the coaming. The positioning means may comprise slots in the incline in which the ends of the beams enter. In other modifications the inclines are formed as castings 16, Fig. 3, or flanged plates, or pieces attached to the inner side of the coaming. The castings are formed with guides in end abutments 16<a> for the reception and retention of the beams.
