Abstract

421,870. Ships' hatches. MARINE PROPULSION, Ltd., AYRE, A. L., and AYRE, W., The Shipyard, Burntisland, Fife. Jan. 22, 1934, No. 7073. Divided out of 421,865. [Class 113 (i)] In ships' hatches in which a clear hatch opening is provided by providing a ledge for the support of the hatch beam ends at the top of the hatch coaming, the outer framing of the coaming defining the edge of this ledge, various bearing parts for the ends of the hatch beams are provided to ensure their correct positioning. This may be achieved by fitting a bulb angle 16 as shown in Fig. 3, to the top of the hatch coaming. The hatch beam is further positioned by snugs 20 on the bulb angle 19 which constitutes the frame of the coaming. Alternatively, a single snug may be provided to take in a slot in the end of the beam. The beams may be converted into cross-ties by providing them with projections 26 which engage with the side of raised bearing. Alternatively the bearing parts are formed by separate seat members mounted in the ledge 16. This ledge may be slightly recessed for the reception and positioning of the hatch beam end.
