Abstract

452,349. Ships' hatches. TOWNSHEND, H. W., 2, Cleveland Terrace, Eaglescliffe, Durham, and SMITH'S DOCK CO., Ltd., Coach Lane, North Shields. Sept. 25, 1935, No. 26554. [Class 113 (i)] To facilitate the welding of the battening cleat to the hatch coaming the body portion 1 provided with the usual upstanding tongue 4, to receive the battening wedge 6 is provided with webs 2, 3. The cleat is welded to the coaming along the edge of the webs and the inner edge of the body 1. A modified form is shown in Fig. 2, where the battening cleat is welded to the horizontal ledge 7. In this case the body 1 serves as tongue. In further modifications the webs 2, 3 are replaced by a single web either centrally or angularly disposed.
