Abstract

703,070. Knitting machines. HEMPHILL CO. July 6, 1950 [July 8, 1949], No. 16958/50. Class 74 (2) A pivoted flopper cam 2 may be swung in from the inoperative dotted line position, to a position shown in full lines, in which the sinkers are moved inwardly soon enough and far enough to permit yarn to be drawn over their backs. A cam 6 is swung in and out concurrently with cam 2 and limits the inward movement of the sinkers to that determined by cam 2. The casting-off cam 9 is also pivoted and moved in and out with cams 2 and 6, to ensure proper casting-off. A camcontrolled slide 16 carries heads 13, 25 which engage studs 7, 26 to move the cams 6 and 9 inwardly, when required, against the action of springs. The heads 13, 25 are longitudinally adjustable by screws 15, 27, to vary the relationship between the cams. Cam 2 is similarly swung in, against spring action, by a head 29 adjustably mounted on a slide 30. The slides 16, 30 bear studs through which they are advanced by the cam-shaped heads of levers 21, 32 operated through linkwork by cams on a drum and they are returned by springs 22, 33, to positions determined by adjustable screws 23, 34.
