Abstract

642,374. Knitting-machines. STIBBE & CO., Ltd., G., STIBBE, E. V., and SMITH, B. Dec. 2, 1946, No. 35626. [Class 74 (ii)] In a multi-feed circular knitting-machine, simultaneous adjustment, at each feed, of at least one cam which operates loop-forming instruments, is effected by means of adjusting- screws bearing pinions which mesh with a common annular indexing gear or toothed ring turned by a master pinion fitted with a wheel, knob, nut 38, or equivalent member. Knockover cams 16, 19, guard cams 17, 20 and retaining cams 18, 21, of outer and inner dial cam tracks respectively are, at each feed, mounted on slides 22 movable radially by screws 24, against spring action, by adjustment of a pinion 37 acting, through a ring-gear 26, on pinions 25 carried by the screws. Each knockover cam is mounted with the associated guard cam on a common slide. A scale and index 42, 41, or an independent scale and an index, are provided. A double-ended blade-spring 43. Fig. 12, or 45, Fig. 13 (not shown), frictionally engages a few teeth of each pair of adjacent pinions 25, to prevent over-running or accidental movement. The arrangement may be applied to cam systems for other instruments, such as sinkers and web holders. It may also be applied to a cylinder cam system, an externally-toothed ring engaging with pinions on vertical adjusting screws. It is stated in the Provisional Specification that the adjusting- wheel, or the like, may be fitted to one of the adjusting screws and that the cams may be pivotally adjustable.
