Abstract
696,733. Converting. WELDING RESEARCH Inc. Sept. 24, 1951 [Dec. ]2, 1950], No. 22293/51. Class 38 (ii). In a converting circuit for supplying a welding load 51 from a welding transformer W having three primary windings W31, W38, W45 connected to a three-phase supply L, L2, L3 through pairs of back-to-back connected discharge valves 34, 35, 41, 42, 48, 49, as described in Specification 654,583, each winding has connected in parallel with it one of three windings T31, T38, T45 of a separate transformer T. Thus when one winding, e.g. W31, of the transformer W is energized, its parallel winding T31 is also energized, and through its inductive coupling with the other two windings T38, T45 windings W38, W45 are energized. Thus all three primary windings of the welding transformer carry current continuously instead of for one-third of the time. By this means the operating characteristics and the capacity of the welding transformer, and the commutation of the valves are improved. The windings W31, W38, W45 may be in two series-connected halves separated by the valves.
