Abstract
569,978. Transformers. FISHER, R. W. July 16, 1943, No. 11600. [Class 38 (ii)] A high reactance transformer, particularly for supplying welding circuits, comprises spaced coaxial windings on a core provided with a magnetic shunt, the primary 3 having a series of tappings 19, 21, 23, 25, any pair of which may be connected to the fixed contacts 32, 33 of a two-way switch 27, whereby changing from striking to running voltage may be readily effected whilst the values of those voltages may be altered by changing the tappings connected to the switch. Additional tappings 17, 18, 20, 22 are provided for adapting the primary to different supply voltages. The transformer and associated circuit elements such as steadying choke, power-factor correcting condenser, ammeter, voltmeter, &c. are disposed in a casing 58, Fig. 5, constructed of interengaging flanged panels. Lifting handles 37 extend through clearance holes in the side panels and are secured to a cradle 36 supporting the transformer.
