Abstract
562,206. Phase changing. WESTING- HOUSE BRAKE & SIGNAL CO., Ltd., and WALKER, A. H. B. Dec. 17, 1942, No. 17938. [Class 38 (ii)] An arrangement for supplying a single phase load L from a three-phase network R, B, Y and maintaining a balance of load thereon comprises at least two transformers having their primaries 1, 2 star-connected to at least two of the lines and their secondaries 3, 4 connected in series and to the load, one of the primaries having a condenser C in shunt therewith and all the transformer cores operating at saturation at full load. To avoid the limitation of a 2-to-1 secondary to primary ratio inherent in arrangements using only two transformers, a third transformer 5, 6, Fig. 3, may be used to supply the voltage component otherwise provided by the line R. A reactance X may be provided in series with the condenser C to form a circuit tuned to the third harmonic so as to byepass magnetizing current of this frequency.
