546,773. Transformers. BRITISH THOMSONHOUSTON CO., Ltd. May 9, 1941, No. 6018. Convention date, May 10, 1940. [Class 38 (ii)] In a transformer for supplying discharge tubes 26 and comprising a secondary winding in two series-connected parts 13, 14 earthed at the point of interconnection and located on opposite sides of the primary 12 with magnetic shunts 17, 18 interposed, any tendency to unbalance in the voltage distribution between the secondary winding parts (due e.g. to inequality in the capacity to earth of the leads connecting the transformer to its load) is compensated by linking a winding or conductive element with the magnetic circuits of the two secondary winding parts. The compensating winding may comprise coils 31, 32 arranged on the magnetic shunts 17, 18 or on the end yokes of the core, or it may be in the form of a slotted plate encircling the two magnetic shunts.
