[Class 38 (ii)] In a current transformer for very high voltages, the ends f of the insulating covering which surrounds the high voltage winding b are spread out to form a thick flange or flanges f, the layers of this covering being approximately perpendicular to the discharge path between the ends of the high voltage winding and the parts at earth potential such as the earthed iron cores a. The insulating covering is provided also externally with an earthed conducting metallization h. In a modification (Fig. 1, not shown), the core constitutes the earthed metallization.
