[Class 38 (iv)] Reducing voltage.-An arrangement for obtaining a low voltage supply from a H.T. line comprises two condensers connected in series between the line and earth, the load being connected in series with an inductance across one of the condensers and in which, in order that the voltage across the condenser does not vary with load, the impedance Lw of the inductance is expressed by the equation Lw = X1 X2 / X1 + X2 . X1 and X2 are the impedances respectively of the two condensers. As shown, the condenser chain is formed by the bushings 2, 7, the primary of a step-down transformer 5 being connected across one of the condensers. The load 10 is connected in series with an inductance 13 across the secondary of the transformer through a time switch 14 and fuses 11, 12. A condenser 8 is in parallel with the transformer to supply magnetizing current.
