Abstract

617,755. Phase changing. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and CLARK, T. H. Nov. 4, 1946, No. 32656. [Class 38 (ii)] A phase-shifting network comprises a resistance 9 in series with a reactor 7 which has a D.C. biassing winding 11, supplied from the centre-tapped secondary 3 of a transformer 2. In parallel with the reactor 7 is connected a condenser 13 of such value that it forms a parallel resonant circuit when the D.C. winding of the reactor is not energized. As the D.C. current is varied, the reactance value changes to vary the phase of the voltage between the centre tapping 6 and the junction 10 of reactance 7 and resistance 9. This phase-change is increased by a condenser 5 in the supply. Resistance 9 may have a non-linear characteristic, e.g. it may be a lamp-filament. The transformer 1 may be replaced by a centretapped resistance.
