[Class 38 (ii)] An arrangement for supplying A.C. potential of peaky wave form to the control electrode 4 of a vapour arc converter 1 com. prises a choke 7 through which A.C. of flat-topped wave form is caused to flow by connecting in series therewith a saturable impedance, for example, a pair of reversely connected diodes 11, 12 operating at saturation. The choke-diode circuit is energized from the secondary 13 of a transformer the primary of which is connected to the A.C. circuit 6 associated with the converter 1. The peaky A.C. potential for the control circuit of the converter is derived from the terminals of the choke 7 or from a secondary winding associated therewith. The phase of the potential peaks may be adjusted by including in the choke-diode circuit a variable D.C. source such as the battery 9 and potentiometer 10.
