Abstract
423,816. Control of D.C. motors. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., Magnet House, Kingsway, London, and CHUBB, A. A., c /o General Electric Co., Stoke, Coventry. Oct. 17, 1933, No. 28653. [Class 38 (iii)] The output of a Ward-Leonard generator G employed for lifts, is restricted by means of an impedance B in the output circuit connected to the grid of a thermionic valve VB, the anode current of which controls the grid of another valve VA controlling the current in the generator field GF. The grid of the valve VA is controlled through a transformer T by electromagnetic step-by-step switches operating as described in Specification 423,805, and when the generator output exceeds a certain value, the valve VB discharges and controls the grid of the valve VA through an additional secondary 3 of the transformer T so that increase of the generator field is prevented. In a modification, Fig. 2, (not shown), a direct-current system for the field GF is employed. In a further modification the valve VB is a screened-grid valve, and its controlling anode current is coupled through an additional transformer with the grid circuit of the valve VA. In a still further modification, the valve VB acts as a shunt to the secondary of the transformer T. The generator G may be one supplying the field of a Ward- Leonard generator.
