[Class 38 (iv)] [Also in Groups XL and XXXVIII] Electromotive force temperature ; thermionic control.-A thermionic valve relay comprises a movable electrode and is such that the output varies, for example, linearly, with the displacement of the electrode. The electrode may be moved by a bimetallic strip responsive to temperature changes, and the valve output may then actuate a relay so that the temperature variations are controlled. A voltage regulator circuit for a generator 106, 107 supplying a variable load 105 comprises a valve 109, the anode of which is moved by a solenoid 108 in circuit with the armature 106. Variations are thus transmitted to the resistance 116 and through a phase-shift network 118, 119 to the grid of an arc discharge tube 112 supplying the field 107. The valve anode may be moved manually to vary the bias on the grid of an arc discharge tube through which passes the current to a lamp-bank or dimmer, Fig. 10 (not shown). Specification 449,807, [Group II], is referred to.
