Abstract
567,995. Automatic control systems for electricity supply. FERRANTI, Ltd., and NEWTON, N. July 9. 1943. No. 11137. [Class 38 (iv)] Voltage.-When a load is supplied through two or more voltage regulators operating in parallel, one of which is a master regulator responsive to circuit voltage and the others are caused to follow it to maintain equal distribution of current through the regulators, each follower regulator comprises a relay having actuating means responsive to the difference in current through the master and follower regulators and actuating means responsive to a variation in the voltage controlled by the follower regulator. The failure of the main regulator thereby leaves the follower regulators operative. Regulating means e, h determining the voltage on conductor pairs a, a<SP>1</SP> and b, bl, supplying in parallel a; load circuit, are controlled by relays c, f responsive to the voltage of the related conductors. The relay f is also responsive to the difference between the currents on the conductor pairs and normally follows the regulator e, which determines the load circuit voltage. The relay f may comprise an enclosed mercury reversing switch controlling a motor g and of the kind described in. Specification 465,058. Mechanically linked with the electromagnet plunger of the voltageresponsive element thereof is a metallic strip or disc m subject to a force produced by a voltage coil and current coil k when the aforesaid currents are unbalanced ; the coil k is connected across conductors, whereby current transformers j are connected in aiding series.
