Abstract
762,217. Control systems for incandescent lamps. EAST MIDLANDS ELECTRICITY BOARD, and HUTCHINSON, S. March 7, 1955 [March 29, 1954], No. 9109/54. Class 38 (4). A standby street-lighting lamp L2 is automatically brought into circuit upon failure of a main lamp L1 by closure of contacts 4, 5 of a thermal switch TS controlled by the main lamp current. The switch comprises a bimetal strip carrying the moving contact 5 and normally distorted, so that the contacts 4, 5 are separated, by heat generated in a resistance heating coil 2 through which the current to the main lamp passes. A similar switch responsive to current flow through lamp L2 may switch in a further standby lamp upon failure of L2.
