418,252. Switching systems for consuming-devices; controlling apparatus by light. ARMSTRONG, J. J. V., 12, Church Street, Liverpool.-(Weston Electrical Instrument Corporation; 614, Frelinghuysen Avenue, Newark, New Jersey, U.S.A.) Sept. 9, 1933, No. 25000. [Class 38 (iv).] A load circuit 28 is controlled in accordance with variations in stimulus applied to a sensitive relay 3 and operation is prevented on transient variations by the interposition of a time lag device 10. An element 1 responsive to light or other variable stimulus controls the relay 3 which has contacts 5, 6, the contact 5, of which controls the circuit of a heating coil 25 of a thermal relay 18 which controls the load circuit 28 directly at contacts 16 or through a relay 13. Contacts 20 on the relay 18 close a holding circuit for the heating coil 25 through an additional thermal relay 21 whose heating coil circuit 27 is closed when the relay 3 is on its contact 6 so as to open the maintaining circuit of the coil 25 and open the load circuit. The thermal delays ensure that the load circuit is not affected unless the relay 3 has responded for a predetermined period of time. The element 1 may be responsive to temperature, humidity or other variable stimulus.
