519,545. Thermal switches. SIEMENS APPARATE UND MASCHINEN GES. Sept. 24, 1938, No. 27945. Convention date, Sept. 24, 1937. [Class 38 (v)] [Also in Group XIII] A thermally controlled switch-actuating device comprises a bimetallic strip 1 carried by supporting members 9, 5 and provided with leads 12, 13 whereby current may be passed through the strip. The strip is arranged so that when heated by passage of current the curvature of the strip increases progressively in one direction, and when the current reaches a predetermined value the curvature of the strip becomes sufficient for the latter to actuate a switch lever, not shown. The supporting member 5 is vertically adjustable to permit variation of the curvature required to actuate the switch lever. The supporting member 9 which is of resilient construction and exerts a longitudinal pressure on the strip to retain both ends of the latter in engagement with their respective supporting members, may consist of a spring strip having a tongue 10 which enters a slot formed in the end of the bimetallic strip.
