Convention date, Aug. 27, 1932. [Class 38 (v)] [See also Group XIII] In a device for regulating the temperature at which a thermostatically controlled electric heater 2 is maintained, a bimetallic strip 4 is provided with an additional heater 11 which is connected to one of a series of tappings on the main heater 2. The temperature of the heated space 1 at which the contacts 5, 6 open is determined by the heat received by the strip 4 from the two heaters 2, 11 and may thus be varied by varying the heat supplied by the heater 11. In a modification, Fig. 2, not shown, the heater 11 may be supplied from an independent source, which may be regulated by a variable resistance at a distance. In another modification, Fig. 3, not shown, three separate heaters are provided in the space to be heated, the thermal switch being mainly influenced by one of the heaters which is variable. Other heat-sensitive elements employing the expansion or vaporization of liquids may be used, and the temperature may be controlled in other ways e.g. by moving a furnace door by means of an auxiliary motor. The apparatus may also be used to indicate when a predetermined temperature is exceeded.
