In a storage heater having a charging regulator or a device for indicating the heat content of the core, the temperature senser of the regulator or device is located outside the core and heat is transmitted from the core to the senser via a metallic heat conducting bridge. As shown, the metal bridge 7 comprises a portion 7b, which is disposed within the insulation 5 surrounding the core 2 and is spaced from the core by a block of insulation 4, and a portion 7a which projects from insulation 5 and radiates heat to the bimetallic senser of a charge regulating switch 6 in series with the core heating element 3. The bridge may additionally be heated by an auxiliary electric resistance element which in one embodiment (Fig. 2, not shown) is connected in series with a temperature dependent resistance located in the insulation block 4 so that as the temperature of the core rises the heat output of the auxiliary element increases, and in another embodiment (Fig. 3, not shown) is controlled manually or in response to outdoor temperature. A manually regulable potentiometer is provided in series with the auxiliary element in both embodiments. In further embodiments (Figs. 6 and 7, not shown) portion 76 of the bridge is in direct contact with the core, either over the whole face area of the portion (Fig. 6) or at spaced locations thereon (Fig. 7). In the former case, portion 7a of the bridge includes a section of reduced cross-sectional area to reduce the degree of heat transmission and in both embodiments heat is transferred from portion 7a to a casing surrounding the core insulation via a block of thermal insulation. The latter may be associated with a heating element controlled in accordance with outside temperature.
