Abstract
483,039. Unit air-heaters. STERN, W. Oct. 6, 1936, No. 27047. [Class 137] [Also in Group XXXV] A unit air-heater consists of an electric heater 1 and fan 3 and incorporates a thermostat 8 for controlling the heater in accordance with room temperature, the thermostat being arranged . in the stream of cold air flowing to the heater. The thermostatic switch 8 is preferably arranged on the intake side of the fan so as to be sensitive to the temperature of the surrounding air. The temperature setting is controlled by a knob 10 on the thermostat which may control only the heater or both fan and heater. The leads to the thermal switch 8 are totally enclosed. A switch 12 provides for cutting in and out heater or fan. The thermal switch may alternatively be arranged between the fan and the heater or, if the heater is on the suction side of the fan, on the intake side of the heater. The arrangements provide, in all cases, emergency control when the fan fails by radiant heat from the heater 1 operating the thermal switch.
