Abstract

A private or industrial central heating system utilising fluid flow to provide heating by radiators is made more efficient by enclosing the radiators and controlling the air flow. This arrangement has very short response time and the air flow can be controlled by thermostats and time programmers. A radiator (1) is supplied with heated fluid via inlet (2) and outlet (3) pipes. The radiator is enclosed (4) and fibre glass wool lagging (5) provides thermal insulation. Openings (6) in the enclosure allow air to enter and other openings (7) allow warm air to flow out. A ventilator fan (8) allows this flow to be controlled in an all or nothing or a progressive manner and when it is not operating, the heat loss is very low. The inlet air may be filtered and the outlet air may be directed as required to cold areas.
