983,858. Automatic alarms. SVENSKA A.B. GASACCUMULATOR. June 28, 1961 [July 11, 1960], No. 23383/61. Heading G4N. A lamp 7, Fig. 1, is lit on the failure of a lamp 3, by the de-energization of a relay 6, current flowing in the relay winding 6 as long as lamp 3 operates normally. The lamp 3, for example, that of a flashing beacon, is energized by A.C. or D.C. and is flashed by a periodically operated switch 4. The relay is energized via switch 4 and impedance 8, or over impedance 9 and lamp 3, in the closed and open positions of the switch 4, respectively. On failure of lamp 3, no current will flow in winding 6 in the open position of switch 4, the relay will be de-energized and its contact will put the standby lamp 7 into circuit with switch 4. In another embodiment (Fig.2,not shown) the impedances 8, 9 are replaced by oppositely poled rectifiers. In the embodiment of Fig. 3 the impedances are replaced by the primary windings of transformers 16, 17 and the relay winding 6 is series connected with their opposed secondaries. Several similar arrangements to that of Fig. 3 may be arranged in cascade, Fig. 4 (not shown) to connect a series of standby lamps into circuit successively as the preceding main or standby lamp fails.
