[Class 38 (iii)] In the braking control of a series electric motor, when the main contactor assumes the off position, supply to the motor is continued through a resistance R and a second contactor B which is controlled with the main contactor and back contacts FA on the main contactor close a short-circuit around the armature through the resistance DR to slow down the motor rapidly until the contactor B opens under delayed action. The auxiliary contactor B may be located in the main circuit instead of in shunt to the main contactor.
