Abstract
448,253. Dynaino-electric machines. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London. Nov. 2, 1934, No. 31511. Convention date, Nov. 2, 1933. [Class 35] Continuous-current machines, either motors or generators, for use with two or more circuits are provided with a set of attenuate poles corresponding to each circuit, the poles of each set lying between alternate poles of each of the other sets and the poles being so arranged that the magnetomotive force in one set has no effect on any of the other sets, and a pair of commutator brushes corresponding to each set of poles, compensating windings and commutating poles are also provided. The Figure shows an arrangement for two circuits 6, 7 The two pairs of poles 8, 9 and 10, 11 are arranged at right angles. Windings 8<a>, 9<a> on the poles 8, 9 and 10<a>, 11<a> on the poles 10, 11 are connected to an exciter 6<5> through regulating resistances 6<a>, 7<a> and reversing switches 6<b>, 7b respectively. On the commutator 3 bears a pair of brushes 4 in line with the poles 8, 9 connected to the circuit 6 and a pair 5 in line the poles 10 and 11 connected to the circuit 7, the commutator connections being such that the flux in the poles 8, 9 does not affect the current in the circuit of the brushes 5, and similarly for the brushes 4. To compensate for armature reaction windings 12, 13 on the poles 10, 11 are connected to the brushes 4 and windings 14, 15 on the poles 8, 9 to the brushes 5. Commutating poles 16 .. 19 are provided between the main poles and carry windings 24, 21, 25, 20 respectively connected to the brushes 4, and windings 26, 23, 27, 22 connected to the brushes 5. The windings are so arranged that when the switches 6<b>, 7<b> are in the position shown, the windings on the poles 16, 18 oppose each other and those on the poles 19, 21 assist each other.
