Abstract

Alternating-current induction machines.-In an induction motor having a stator winding adapted to give a smaller number of poles for running than for starting, connectors are arranged at one or both ends of the rotor conductors so that the winding pitch approximates to twice the starting pole pitch and also approximates to the running pole pitch. In Fig. 1, the stator NS has 8 poles for starting, the windings being rearranged to give 6 poles for running; the rotor conductors A - - J are joined at one end by connectors having a pitch of 1 to 3. Where a large number of conductors is used, the rotor resistance may be adjusted on the starting polarity by varying the connector pitch; finer adjustments may be obtained by having a system of connectors of half the resistance at each end, and varying the pitch at one end only. The connectors mav be enclosed in iron to limit the rush of current when changing polarity. The conductors may be arranged in several closed paths, or several adjacent conductors may be joined to a common connector.
