362,618. Alternating-current motors. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London.-(Assignees of Riggs, L. W. ; 1197, Palmer Avenue, Schenectady; New York, U.S.A.) Nov. 7, 1930, No. 33564. Convention date, Nov. 9, 1929. [Class 35.] In a salient pole synchronous motor having squirrel-cage starting windings with open end rings in each pole face, the conductors 8 are joined by end-pieces 9 of conducting material at opposite ends of each pole and a conductor 12 is disposed along the side and beneath the tip of each pole connecting the opposite end-pieces whereby a closed circuit is provided for currents induced in the squirrel cage bars. The field coil 7 is held in position by flanges 10. The objects of the invention are to eliminate the tendency of the motor to remain at half-speed during starting as the result of the high impedance of. the rotor when the primary flux is in an interpolar position, and to preclude the possibility of sparking between the conductor bars and the pole laminations at starting.
