Abstract

Armatures and field magnets, dampers and short-circuited screens on cores and poles of.- In a synchronous alternator, a polyphase shortcircuited winding wound for m times the main pole number is wound on the armature and a damping winding is used on the magnets for the purpose of suppressing the m<th> higher harmonic voltage. In the form shown, the magnet poles P, which are excited by coils Z, carry damping windings D. The armature A has, in addition to the normal three-phase winding W, a short-circuited winding K of pitch equal to one-fifth of the pole pitch T and adapted therefore for suppressing the fifth higher harmonic. The conductors of the polyphase short-circuited winding are preferably arranged in the upper portion of the slots in the vicinity of the air-gap and may consist of slot wedges formed of electrically conducting material.
