Abstract

9811. Carolan, E. A., [General Electric Co.]. April 30. Armatures; field magnets.-The winding of the field magnets orarmature of a dynamo-electric machine having distributed windings is made from one long coil which is woven into the desired lap or concentric arrangement either on a separate form or directly into the slots of the stator &c. core. Fig. 3 shows the preferable arrangement of the stator windings in the case of a self-starting single-phase induction motor having four poles. The winding in this case consists of one long four-pole main winding B, wound either in lap fashion, as shown, or concentric fashion, and four single-pole starting- windings C, wound either in lap or concentric as shown in Figs. 3 and 5. The coils from which the windings B, C are formed consist of the requisite number of turns of wire bound together by tape &c., and are of such length that no surplus is left when the winding is made up into the finished form shown in Fig. 5. The starting-windings C are arranged to form polar centres N', S<1> in advance of the main polar centres N, S, and are connected by their exposed terminals 42, 43 either in parallel, as shown in Fig. 3, or in series. In the latter case they may be made in one piece similarly to the winding B, which may otherwise be made in sections as shown with regard to the windings C. The main winding B is connected directly to the mains 48, 49, and the windings C through a dephasing coil 50<a>.
