Armatures, dampers on cores of; commutating poles. - To improve the commutation of high - voltage dynamo - electric machines, an auxiliary winding is provided on the armature, inductively coupled with the main winding and connected to a second commutator, the segments of which are shortcircuited when commutation begins and are kept shortcircuited for a sufficiently long time after commutation for the current in the auxiliary winding to die down. The main winding 3 connected to the commutator 4 and the auxiliary winding 6 connected to the commutator 7 are placed in the same slots so that the mutual inductance is a maximum. The armature is preferably wavewound and the two windings are similar as regards their numbers of turns and coils, but the auxiliary winding is preferably an open-coil winding with the commutator 7 having twice as many segments as the main commutator 4. The field structure comprises main poles 11 and poles 12 for supplying a commutating and compensating flux. Specification 16702/00 is referred to.
