Abstract
515,329. Control of D.C. motors. MANDL, A., and METROPOLITAN-VICKERS ELECTRICAL CO., Ltd. June 17, 1938, No. 18071. [Class 38 (iii)] Non - regenerative braking.-In a rheostatic braking arrangement for a compound - wound motor 1 in which the series field 2 is used as an anti-compounding stabilizing winding, a resistance R2 is connected in series with the series field winding, and a diverter resistance R1 is connected across both the field winding 2 and the resistance R2. For braking, the switches 4, 5 are opened and switches 6, 7 closed so that the motor armature 1, and its series field 2 with the resistances R1, R2, are connected to a rheostatic braking resistance R3. Such values may be given to the resistances Rl, R2 that the resistance R3 may be dispensed with, and in this case the switch 7 may also be dispensed with so that the resistances Rl, R2 remain connected to the series field during motoring.
